The problem with criminalizing hate speech is that “hate” is determined by people who are most hateful. As it is with all good hypocrites, they’re often the ones projecting “love and tolerance” the loudest. Justin Trudeau, Chrystia Freeland, and Randy Boissonnault, present themselves as examples of such pharisees in our minds.
Bill C-63 is yet another trojan horse for a country already sacked by political destruction. Do not underestimate the Liberals. They’re wilfully terrible at most things, but excel in the art of dictatorship. They’ve constructed this bill in such a way as to make it almost impossible to debate. The moment we try to do so is the moment they accuse us of putting children in danger, or watching innocents be exploited online.
Nothing could be further from the truth, but then again, that doesn’t particularly matter for our politicians. Instead, we’re concerned most immediately about the “hatred” sections of this new bill. Here are a few examples from the proposed law.* C-63,
“amends the Criminal Code to,
(a) create a hate crime offence of committing an offence under that Act or any other Act of Parliament that is motivated by hatred based on certain factors;
(b) create a recognizance to keep the peace relating to hate propaganda and hate crime offences;
(c) define “hatred” for the purposes of the new offence and the hate propaganda offences; and
(d) increase the maximum sentences for the hate propaganda offences.”
More than that, Bill C-63,
“reduce(s) harms caused to persons in Canada as a result of harmful content online, where, harmful content means…
(e) content that foments hatred”
But what exactly does “content that foments hatred” mean? According to Bill C-63,
“content that foments hatred means content that expresses detestation or vilification of an individual or group of individuals on the basis of a prohibited ground of discrimination, within the meaning of the Canadian Human Rights Act…Everyone who commits an offence under this Act, if the…offence is motivated by hatred based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression, is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for life.”
It doesn’t take a legal scholar to see why this law is so dangerous. A short example will suffice.
Suppose a Christian comments about transgender surgery, and calls it a sin against God. This isn’t a position the Christian creates within himself; it’s from the Scripture of Jesus Christ. “Everyone’s a sinner,” says the Christian, “and artificially changing your gender is a manifestation of such sin.”
Under Bill C-63, such preaching could be, and will be, called “vilification.” We can see it now – radical activists complaining to regulatory authorities because a Christian dared to preach that transgenderism is wrong. Does anyone think Trudeau will side with righteousness? Does anyone expect any government to side with the cross? For we know what the Liberals really mean when they talk about “hatred;” it’s whatever they hate.
