Is This What Our Soldiers Died For?

Normally, we fill every November 11th with thankful messages for our soldiers.

This year, we should fill it with apologies.

Today, we ought to apologize to our fallen, as this is not the same Canada they fought and died for. The home they loved is no longer here. The freedoms they defended from foreign dictators are under attack by domestic demagogues.

I take the pertinent example of prayer to show what I mean.

One of the freedoms veterans sacrificed themselves for was our religious freedom. They gave their lives that we might be able to pray where we wish, and when we wish. But in a twist of insulting irony, the NDP-Liberal coalition has “banned military chaplains from prayer during Remembrance Day ceremonies across Canada.”

Can you believe it? Ottawa is “honouring” our veterans by destroying the very thing they died for. Mr. Trudeau is “remembering” their fight for the freedom to pray by banning a chaplain’s freedom of prayer. All the while, he sternly reminds them that, “No exemptions have been granted this year.”

No doubt, Mr. Trudeau will say he’s banned prayer to be inclusive of all faiths and beliefs, but that isn’t accurate. He isn’t being inclusive of all faiths; he’s only being inclusive of faiths that are offended by Christian prayer. Thus, it’s clear that what veterans gave us, our government is taking away.

Is this what our soldiers fought for? Is this why they stormed the beaches? Did those who are buried in France and Flanders Fields surrender so much overseas only to find everything they fought for being plundered here, at home?

Taylor : It's a firm perception of mine that I hold at age 72 that Canada is still at war...at war with fellow Canadians. I say that not to sound clever or glib. I believe. Though not a man of faith, I am a man of good character. I am appalled and shocked by the moral decline and erosion of personal integrity in so many in this nation in recent years. Dystopia not Utopia. Confrontation over Communication. Self-Service over Service to others.
